Moped driver dies in 3-vehicle crash

The driver of a moped was struck and killed in a three-vehicle accident in Huntington County around 6:04 a.m. Monday.

Linda K. Moore,62, Lagro, was driving a 2006 Jeep eastbound on U.S. 24 West approaching the intersection with County Road 750 West when a moped came from County Road 750 West into the path of the Jeep. The moped ran into the Jeep, spilling the moped driver onto the driving lane of U.S. 24 West. The Jeep immediately pulled over so Moore could check on the welfare of the person who had fallen from the moped.

She had just returned to her Jeep when a third vehicle, driven by David Rose,52, Fowlerville, MI, struck the left rear of the Jeep, then struck the moped and the driver on the pavement. The moped became entangled underneath the vehicle, causing it to catch on fire, and came to rest in the passing lane of US 24 West. The driver of the moped was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities haven't released the identity of the moped rider, pending identification and notification of family. The investigation continues.

Assisting agencies included Andrews Police Department, Andrews Fire and Rescue, Huntington EMS, Huntington County Coroner's Office and Huntington Emergency Management Agency.
