A 24-year-old mother convicted of neglecting her three children has been sentenced to two years in prison.
Amanda Alvather, of the 300 block of West Creighton Avenue, was arrested in July, more than eight months after an October inspection at her apartment. Her three children, ranging in age at the time from 10 months to 3 years, were found wearing soiled clothes and were "covered in filth, feces and smelled of urine," according to court documents.
The children were hospitalized and treated for a variety of ailments including malnutrition and frostbite, according to court documents.
Alvather pleaded guilty in September to two charges of child neglect. On Tuesday, Allen Superior Magistrate Robert J. Schmoll sentenced her to two years in prison and four years on probation. She was ordered to have no contact with her children, to obtain substance abuse treatment and to attend parenting classes.
