Joey Chestnut wins 7th contest with record 69 hot dogs

NEW YORK — Joey "Jaws" Chestnut devoured the competition, 69 franks and his own record — plus 10 days' worth of calories and three weeks' worth of sodium — to win a seventh straight Independence Day hot dog challenge and set a new world mark.

The San Jose, Calif., man bested runner up Matthew Stonie by 18 dogs and buns to emerge victorious in Nathan's Famous Fourth of July International Hot Dog Eating Contest in Brooklyn.

Chestnut receives $10,000 and a mustard-yellow champion's belt.

Sixteen men completed the challenge, though one scarfed down only nine dogs. A Phoenix man, Jeff "The Beast Man" Butler, consumed 31 to tie for sixth.

Sonya "Black Widow" Thomas eked out a narrow win in the women's race by eating nearly 37 dogs. Juliet Lee wolfed down 36.
