Elton John to perform remotely at Sweetwater Sound

Sweetwater Sound is offering the public the opportunity to hear Elton John perform "live" in the wee hours of Saturday morning — although he will actually be performing at Disneyland in Anaheim, Calif.

How can this be? Elton John will be helping Yamaha celebrate 125 years by playing a special concert on a Yamaha Disklavier. Attendees will be able to see the show in the Sweetwater Performance Theatre, where Sweetwater's own Disklavier will mirror the performance.

As the Sweetwater news release explained it, Elton John's "performance on the Yamaha Disklavier reproducing piano onstage with a 70-piece orchestra will be streamed live over the Internet and simultaneously to remote Disklaviers across the nation, and in many countries around the world. His actual piano keystrokes are then faithfully recreated, note for note, in real time on each of the remote instruments, while the entire orchestra is seen and heard on adjacent monitors, in perfect sync with the remote piano performances."

Doors open at midnight Friday; the five-song set begins at about 12:30 a.m. The event is free and open to the public.

Those interested in attending can call 432-8176 or register for the event online at http://sweetwater.com/local/events/register/399--Elton_John_Remote_Live_Concert.

Sweetwater Sound is at 5501 U.S. 30 W.
