Allen County has a new coroner: Craig L. Nelson.

Nelson, a dentist who joined the coroner's office in 2003 before becoming a deputy coroner in 2006 and later the chief deputy coroner, handily defeated challenger Norman E. Knuth in Tuesday’s election. Nelson tallied 86,558 votes, or 62 percent of the vote, according to the Allen County Election Board. All precincts have reported.

Knuth finished with 52,108 votes, or 38 percent.

Nelson replaces Dr. E. Jon Brandenberger, who is term-limited.

Brandenberger has actually been in office since 2001, when he was elected to fill the unexpired term of Dr. Phillip E. O'Shaughnessy, who died mere weeks into his term in 2001. A normal term is four years; term limits are imposed at eight.

Unopposed Frisinger is county surveyor

Allan D. Frisinger, who was unopposed, is the Allen County Surveyor. Frisinger tallied 102,380 votes.
